My Journey in Athletics and the Arts
My career began on the volleyball courts, where I played as a university athlete and eventually became a college volleyball coach. Coaching at a small school, I was fortunate to lead my team to victories over much larger institutions, showing me firsthand how grit, strategy, and heart can overcome the odds. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of coaching hundreds of athletes in both indoor and beach volleyball, teaching them not only physical skills but also how to thrive under pressure.
In addition to my volleyball coaching, I’ve worked as a certified strength and conditioning coach with the National Strength and Conditioning Association and am a practicing member of the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists, serving both high-performance athletes and the general population. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Science and a Master’s of the Arts degree, and my work in performance coaching is grounded in evidence-based practices. As a personal trainer, I emphasized functional movement, injury prevention, and strength, working to help my clients reach their peak physical potential.
Parallel to my work in athletics, I’ve also pursued a rewarding career in the performing arts. My feature film Numb, produced with a budget of over a million dollars, has screened in 45 countries and earned me a Best Director nomination at the British Columbia Film and Television Awards. I’m also proud of my work in theatre, directing the stage production Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, which was nominated for Best Play and Best Director. I know what it takes to bring out an award-winning performance, whether from an athlete or an actor.
The Philosophy
Understanding and Overcoming Somatic Blocks
One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned in my career is that the biggest blocks to performance are often hidden within the nervous system. I’ve witnessed how ingrained responses to stress, fear, and competition can keep athletes from reaching their full potential, even when they’ve put in the hours. This realization led me to create a somatic approach to performance that goes beyond traditional mental strategies, working directly with the body’s autonomic nervous system.
I believe that peak performance isn’t just about mental toughness; it’s about engaging the intelligence within the body. By reprogramming the nervous system, I help clients transform unconscious responses into conscious control.
A Holistic, Embodied Approach to Performance
At the core of my philosophy is a commitment to helping people bring their whole selves to their performance. I teach clients to harness not only the mind but also the intelligence centers of the heart and gut. In my Somatic Sport Performance Workshops, I explain how the nervous system’s patterns can limit success and share methods to rewire these responses. Participants learn how to engage their entire body, aligning their thoughts, emotions, and physical actions. They aim to leave feeling more present, resilient, and ready to perform.
I offer Personalized Somatic Performance Sessions for those who want a tailored experience. These one-on-one sessions are designed to uncover each athlete’s unique performance blocks and develop strategies to overcome them. No two nervous systems are alike, so we work together to create a program that helps them achieve their best on their own terms.
I also provide Coach Mentoring to help leaders create a culture of trust, resilience, and high performance for their teams. By understanding the relational and psychological dynamics at play, I empower coaches to foster environments where each athlete can thrive and feel like a valued part of the team.
The Vision
A Unique Offering
in Performance Coaching
What sets my approach apart is my background—a rare mix of high-level sports experience, somatic knowledge, and artistic direction. This isn’t a traditional sports psychology framework; it’s an innovative, body-centred approach that helps athletes achieve breakthroughs by rewiring the nervous system for sustainable, embodied performance. In an industry that sometimes overlooks the body’s role, I’m proud to offer something unique: a way for clients to truly transform from within.
My ideal clients are open-minded athletes, coaches, and teams that want to explore new pathways to peak performance. They are dedicated to taking their skills to the next level and willing to step beyond conventional methods to overcome limitations.
Leaving a Legacy of Embodiment and Human Connection
In a world where people are increasingly disconnected from their bodies, sports is one of the last spaces where true physical connection and engagement can still happen. I view each interaction with an athlete as an opportunity to help them reclaim embodiment—not just for the sake of performance but as a life skill.
I’ve had the joy of coaching athletes, clients, and actors to reach levels they hadn’t thought possible. One of the most meaningful collaborations in my career was with Aleks Paunovic, an actor with whom I share a close working relationship. I was honoured to direct him to award-worthy performances, including his UBCP Best Actor Award win for Numb.
I’m driven by the belief that each person has untapped potential waiting to be unlocked. My mission is to guide people to an integrated, embodied form of performance that they can carry into all aspects of their lives. Through my workshops, individualized coaching, and mentorship, I help clients find resilience, meaning, and peak performance—not only in sports but also in everyday life.
